The fabric, wiring, and cables are removed from the 2016 Alaska Airmen Super Cub Raffle Plane fuselage, and the frame is inspected for any damage or corrosion. Due to the extent of the damage, the frame will be replaced instead of repaired.
Damage included hangar rash and dirt. Also, the top 3 stringers were 5/8″ electrical conduit! Now that’s Alaskan! One of the longerons had gotten water in it that froze and burst the tube in several places. That combined with a couple of bent tubes and no mods justified buying a new fuselage.
Thanks to Univair and F Atlee Dodge for providing deep discounts on the new frame! Anchorage Custom Powder Coating should have it finished up this coming week. Stay tuned for the time lapse of her going back together…
